The New Hanover County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program’s mission is to assist citizens and businesses in becoming self-sufficient for up to 96 hours following a disaster, and to help educate the community to do the same.
The primary objective of the CERT Program is to train volunteers to safely and promptly care for themselves, their families, and their neighbors during an emergency, helping to relieve some of the demand on first responders. CERT volunteers will be trained in basic disaster response skills by professional firefighters, EMS personnel and other emergency responders. Become a member of New Hanover County’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and help make a difference in the event of a disaster. Local training is conducted by New Hanover County Emergency Management in partnership with Cape Fear Community College. Register by calling the county’s Emergency Management staff at 910-798-6900 or send an email to nhccert@nhcgov.com. |

The 2019 LANDFALL SPRINGFEST & CAR SHOW was held April 27 featuring our city and county first responders and focusing on hurricane preparedness. More than 60 cars were showcased on the soccer field, the Rusty Bumpers provided great music, and CCL provided the burgers & dogs all during a 3-hour period on a lovely Saturday. A special THANK YOU to Steve Hughes and the COA staff for their help and participation before, during, and after SpringFest. We couldn't have been done with you!

Eleven Landfall CERT members sheltered in place during Hurricane Florence. They met with the COA management team for a pre-briefing, distributed first aid go-bags to members, received COA radios, and then they hunkered down.
During the storm, the COA team cleared trees to allow delivery of emergency oxygen to a resident, cleared main roads in case of an emergency, and kept LFCERT updated with radio checks three times a day. Meanwhile, CERT members checked on neighbors, helped when trees crashed through houses making sure residents were OK, contacted neighbors with medical issues, delivered food, checked homes that had been evacuated for damage, and generally tried to be of help. About 20 COA employees slept at the maintenance building for 4 – 5 days to make sure our community was served throughout the storm. LFCERT provided vests and cots to them, offered our generator, and later helped with food to serve them. CLICK HERE to read the letter of appreciation
